William Carl Calhoun

William Carl Calhoun, 85, of Hagerstown, passed away on Sunday, May 5, at his home.
Born December 30, 1927 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Karl K. and Muriel Calhoun.
William was a 1946 graduate of Hagerstown High School. He went on to attend Virginia Tech University after serving in the Navy.
He worked as a lumber salesman for Dixie Lumber in downtown Hagerstown. He was also a scout master with Troop 10 for over 15 years at Trinity Lutheran Church.
He was a member of the Alsatia Club, the Elk's Club, and the Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42.
William is survived by a daughter, Gayle Calhoun Waltersdorf of Hagerstown; three sons, Michael Stuart Calhoun and wife, Cathy, of Colonial Heights, Va., James Wilson Calhoun and wife, Debbie, of Big Pool, and Timothy Blaine Calhoun and wife, Barbara, of Hagerstown; a sister, Mary Jane Viar of Hagerstown; five grandchildren, Collin A. Calhoun of Williamsport, Gregory W. Calhoun and wife, Sondra, of Philadelphia, James DeVore Waltersdorf and wife Nicole of Long Island, NY., Kelsey J. Calhoun of Colonial Heights, Laura A. Calhoun of Hagerstown; a niece, Kay Rozinak of Pittsburgh; and a nephew, Donnie Viar of Hagerstown
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Jean (DeVore) Calhoun, who died on August 8, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Yvonne Bikle.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Greg Shook officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 6-8pm on Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in William's name to Trinity Lutheran Church, 15 Randolph Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740
