William Layton Anderson

September 19, 1925 — January 18, 2016

William Layton Anderson, 90, of Hagerstown, passed away, Monday, January 18, 2016, at his home. Born August 19, 1925 in Hagerstown he was the son of the late, Clyde F. and Catherine E. (Frush) Anderson. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Clyde and Jack Anderson and one sister, Jean Sullivan. Mr. Anderson retired as a machinist for Mack Truck and previously had work as a stationary fireman for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a US Army veteran of WW II where he was a paratrooper. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks #378, Hagerstown and the American Legion Post 211, Funkstown. Mr. Anderson was a hunter, an avid golfer and a Washington Redskin fan. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret S. (McCubbin) Anderson; three children, Billy Anderson, Judy Ebersole and husband, Gene and Sally Taylor and husband, Steve, all of Hagerstown; two brothers, Raymond Anderson and wife Beverly of Chambersburg, Pa. and Stanley Anderson and wife, Betsy of Falling Waters, W.Va.; eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. At his request there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Hagerstown Church of Christ, 19644 Leitersburg Pike with Pastor Richard McGough officiating and assisted by close family friend, Greg Bowen. Private Inurnment will be held in Rest Haven Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742. Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown is assisting the family with the arrangements.
