William Lee "Bill" Dixon, 72, of Hagerstown, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at his home.
Born December 29, 1941 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Glen and Erma (Smith) Dixon.
He was a 1959 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
Bill was a veteran of the United States Army.
He worked as a supervisor at Electromet Corporation in Hagerstown.
Bill was a member of the Williamsport American Legion Post No. 202 and the Amvets Post 10.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joanna Dixon; a son, Michael Shane Dixon of Hagerstown; three step daughters, Melanie Jennings of Hagerstown, Mary Matthews - Martin of Delray Beach, FL. and Susanne Matthews of Baltimore; a sister, Peggy A. Stewart of New Jersey; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Whittington and Doris V. Bolinger and two brothers, Kenneth Dixon and James J. Hines.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Friday, January 2, 2015 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Mark Mooney officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Maryland State Honor Guard, Amvets and the Marine Corp. League.
Friends will be received one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bill's name to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave. Hagerstown, MD 21742.
