William Newton Newt Rinehart

William "Newt" Newton Rinehart, 80, Hagerstown, MD, passed away Friday, November 30, 2018 at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD.
Born in Hagerstown, MD on November 12, 1938, he was the son of the late Argie (Prosper) and Jacob Lewis Rinehart. In addition to his parents, Newt is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, True Alan Hubler and sister-in-law, Anna Louise Smith.
Newt was a veteran in the U.S. Air Force. With Newt's knowledge of petroleum, the Air Force put him through the Northwest Technical Institute where he became a Petroleum Supply Specialist. He was then stationed in Thule, Greenland. Here, Newt became a Brother of the Arctic Order, Knights of the Blue Nose. Those who became a member of this staunch group of Airmen, had to serve and survive a minimum apprenticeship of three long months north of the Arctic Circle.
After Newt's time in the service, he came home to exercise his entrepreneurial skills and use his petroleum knowledge owning and operating a variety of Exxon and Mobile service stations and a Dunkin' Donuts of Hagerstown, MD. For the remainder of his career, he acted as the General Manager for General Machine Shop, Inc. of Cheverly, MD.
He was a lifelong member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. In addition, he was a member of the Hagerstown Elks Lodge #378, and the American Legion Post 211 in Funkstown, MD.
Newt is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Frances "Fran" L. (Shober) Rinehart; his daughter, Toni Renee Rinehart of Hagerstown; sister, Edythe "Edie" Lorraine Rinehart Hubler of Indian Land, SC and her son, Brett Alan Hubler and wife Katie McCormick Hubler of Charlotte, NC; sister-in-law Sharon L. Harvey and husband William "Bill" F. Harvey of Virginia Beach, VA and their children, Tisha L. Harvey Smith and husband Tim of Richardson, TX and William "JR" Harvey, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA; and niece Lisa Louise Smith Flynn and husband Christopher of Northern VA and their children Nicholas and Hunter Flynn.
A Celebration of God's Gift of Life, memorial service, will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Sunday, December 16, 2018, at Rest Haven Funeral Home, Inc., 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742. Reverend Elizabeth Jackson will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Newt's name to Otterbein United Methodist Church, 108 E. Franklin St, Hagerstown, MD 21740 or to Doey's House, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
