William Ralph Jordan

William Ralph Jordan, Sr., 87, of Hagerstown, passed away, Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown.

Born March 5, 1927 in Hagerstown he was the son of the late, Ernest P. Jordan, Sr. and Nina Irene (Goetz) Jordan. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years on October 5, 2014, Hazel Virginia (Selby) Jordan; three brothers, Ernest P. Jordan, Jr., Gary P. Jordan, Sr. and Patrick Jordan; three sisters, Lorraine Rheam, Patricia Shank and Thelma Jordan.

Mr. Jordan retired from the Western Maryland Railway after 41 years of service where he was a Representative of the International Brotherhood of Fireman and Oilers Union. While at the railroad he did odd jobs and painting and as a boy delivered newspapers.

He was a US Navy veteran of WW II, serving in the Pacific Theater on the USS Yosemite AD-19 and receiving various ribbons, medals and honors.

Mr. Jordan was a member of the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren; AARP; American Legion; World War II National Museum; Western Maryland Railway Old Timers Club; F.O. Eagles; V.F.W. and the Woodmen of the World.

He is survived by one son, William R. Jordan, Jr. of Hagerstown; one daughter, Sandra K. Haggerty and husband William of Aberdeen, Md.; one brother, Richard Jordan, Sr. and one sister, Jeanene Crawford both of Hagerstown and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastors Audrey and Tim Hollenberg-Duffey officiating at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.

Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the US Navy Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 P.M.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown 21742.
