Barbara Pratini Spaid

February 2, 1935 — February 12, 2018

Barbara Pratini Spaid, 83, of Smithsburg, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018 at her home, while surrounded by her loving family.

Born February 2, 1935 in San Jose, CA., she was the only child of the late Constantine and Rose (Tedesco) Pratini.

Barb, who originally reigns from the west coast, wasn't your average everyday woman of her time. To put herself through college at the University of Utah, she taught dance lessons to young girls in Salt Lake City. Post college, she moved back to San Jose, to pursue a career as a paralegal. One vacation to Hawaii was where her life took an amazing turn, and it would forever change her life. She met the love of her life, Dan, on Waikiki Beach in June of 1963. She soon found herself moving across the country to a small rural town in Pennsylvania, where the rest was history. Barb worked as a teacher, and held various paralegal and administrative positions.

Barb enjoyed spending time at their family condo in Ocean City, Maryland, but most importantly spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was very loved and will be missed by her family and friends.

She is survived her loving husband of 54 years, James Daniel "Dan" Spaid; three children, Warren Spaid of Smithsburg, Christopher Spaid and wife Dawn of Hagerstown, Michelle Mong and husband Joseph of Smithsburg; four grandchildren, Erika Mong, Aaron Mong, Ally Spaid, Gabriella Spaid; two step grandchildren, Christiana Smith and Alexandra Smith; and two step-great-grandchildren, Kennedy Smith and Piper Cozzi.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 PA Ave., Hagerstown, with Chaplain Dean Pryor officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barb's name to Girls Inc. of Washington County or to Hospice of Washington County.
