Barney E. Barnhart
December 29, 1931 — November 26, 2019
Marshall Elgin Barnhart, lovingly known as Barney, 87, of Hagerstown, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Doey's House.
Born December 29, 1931 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Clarence W. and Violet L. (Shupp) Barnhart.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two daughters, Donna Yoakum and Tammy Sodergren; a son, Andrew Barnhart; two sisters, Beverly Stoddard and Mary Seale; and two brothers, Delmont Barnhart and James Barnhart.
Barney was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, enlisting for 23 years as a Navy Seabee, with service in Vietnam.
He retired in 1996 from Mack Truck after 24 years.
Barney enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Anna V. (Knodle) Barnhart; a son, Ralph "Winnie" Mason of Hagerstown; six grandchildren, Rebecca Mana, Joey Mason, Tonya Sodergren, Nicole Resseger, Anthony Sodergren, and Emily Sodergren; and eight great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Brayden, Grayson, Jayceon, Joey, Sophia, Olivia, and Zoey.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, December 2, 2019 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor Walt Roberts officiating. Burial will follow with military honors being accorded by the Navy.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3-5pm.
