Clara Marie Cannon

Clara Marie Cannon, formerly Carmela Salamone passed away peacefully on Monday, February 19, 2024, in Williamsport, MD.

Born May 5, 1928, to parents Antonino Salamone and Antonette Difide, she was one of 9 children and loved being part of a large Italian family which immigrated from Palermo, Italy.  She is survived by sisters Annie Antognoli, Josephine Proctor, and Eleanor Manfrie, and predeceased by sisters Rose Mary Black and Beatrice Lynch, and brothers Frank, Patrick, and Jerry Salamone. After graduating from New Brunswick High School in New Jersey, Clara worked at Mack Trucks in accounting, Hagerstown Trust as a bank teller, and later wrapping gifts at Bonton’s at the Valley Mall, which she loved.  But her favorite career choice was that of being a homemaker and mother.

Clara is predeceased by her loving husband, William “Bill” Cannon and is survived by her sons, William “Billy” Cannon and wife Melinda, James “Jim” Cannon and wife Jamie, and daughter Annette Cannon.  She is also survived by grandchildren whom she cherished and enjoyed throughout her life:  Jayson Cannon, Jordan Cannon, Rori Cannon Daughtridge, Nick Cannon, and Jessica Cannon, and 8 great grandchildren.

Clara was a long-time member at St John’s Lutheran Church, serving as Sunday School teacher and loved attending when her husband Bill, and later granddaughter Jordan sang in the choir.

Clare was loved by all who knew her.  She was a strong woman of faith, enjoyed cooking amazing Italian dinners, watching baseball and football on tv with Bill, going to Sunday night concerts at the City Park, family beach trips and had a caring and peaceful personality that made you feel so warm in her presence.

She will be missed by all.

A celebration of life event is scheduled for Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Rest Haven, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you share a little Clara into the world in the year ahead by giving someone your time, or maybe drop off a meal, or send them a card sharing that you love them and God loves them.
