Corlett Theresa Ashton

Corlett Theresa Ashton aka Tankie of Hagerstown, Maryland departed this life on Saturday, December 9, 2023 suddenly.  She was born on May 10, 1963 in Washington, DC, a devoted daughter of late Mary Edna Tate and the late Cortez Gilmore Ashton.


Corlett received her formal education in Washington, DC public schools where she graduated from McKinley Technology High.  While at McKinley Tech she took up modeling.  In Corlett’s early years, she held many positions at a variety of companies; one being at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as a contractor; the Housing Authority and Morningside Nursing Home before moving on to Creekside Village Rehabilitations Center and Nursing Home.  Corlett love hanging out with her sisters.  She found joy in shopping at the Thrift Store for bargains.

 She was known for her work in flipping bathrooms, bedrooms etc. you name it – she did it.  Corlett had the eye for decorating.  You can depend on her knowledge when it comes to decorations. 
Corlett was a very giving person.  She would give you the shirt off her back when she had less.  She was well liked among her family and friends.  She was known for her generosity, kindness and humor.  She did it all; great wife, mom and a homemaker.  There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her children.


Corlett was preceded in death by her mother Mary Edna Tate; her father Cortez Gilmore Ashton; brother, Stanley Tate and her granddaughter, Tiana Maria Graves.


Corlett legacy lives in the hearts of her husband, Eugene M. Graves (Sweetie) and one daughter, Charlene M. Graves and sons Carlus M. Graves and Jonathan E. Wills; two grandsons, Xavier J. Graves, Ramel M. Graves and one granddaughter Briana M. Graves; three sisters, Stephanie Daniels (Clifton); Laverne Tate, Chiquta Zanders (Michael) and three brothers, Sonny Tate (Margaret), Shane Tate and Cortez Ashton (Krystal) a sister-in-law JoAnn Tate; her best friend Charlene Murphy and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

 

The family will receive friends from 12-1pm on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm at the funeral home.
