Donald Arthur Mangus

Donald Arthur Mangus, 94, of Martinsburg, formerly of Johnstown, PA., and of Hagerstown, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at the Martinsburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Born October 30, 1920 in Johnstown, he was the son of the late Arthur Lee and Mary Jane (Duncan) Mangus.
He was a graduate of Dale High School in Johnstown.
Donald was a veteran of the United States Army during WWII and received a Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon.
Donald started working for United States Steel and went to work for Mack Truck in 1962. He retired as a machine operator in 1986, after 24 years of service.
He was a member of Homestead Ave. United Methodist Church and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows both in Johnstown, PA; a former member of Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42; and was a life member of Greencastle PA. VFW Post No. 6319. He enjoyed deer hunting.
Donald is survived by two daughters, Beverly Dawn Durst of Hagerstown, Mary Alice Gray and husband Raymond of Martinsburg; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Fetter) Mangus; a daughter, Valerie Jean Jones; two sisters, Edna and Lillian; and a brother, Harry Mangus. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Bob Cook officiating. Military honors will be accorded by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42. Inurnment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
