Donald Lee Shirley

Donald Lee Shirley, born June 13, 1954, better known as “Duck,” to his many beloved friends, has laid down his sword after losing his battle with cancer on February 3, 2024, with his devoted and loving family by his side. He fought valiantly and bravely, always worrying about his family’s welfare after he met his demise.

Throughout his life he was many things to many people. A great friend, a loyal husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and an even prouder great grandfather. He was well loved by everyone he met and always a silver-tongued charmer with a contagious laugh.

During his 20’s he worked in different professions, but always made time for his first passion, music. At times he was a drummer and a singer in many different rock bands, before settling as a Delivery Driver for Hagerstown Paint and Glass. He then transitioned into being a Demolitions Expert in the 4-state area. Some of the projects he worked on, or “blew up” as he liked to say, was the Sideling Hill pass way, clearing the area for Walmart on Garland Groh and Wesel Boulevard.

He retired from Jameson Door after 18 and a half years of service as a mechanic.

He is preceded by his wife of 48 years, Mary M. Shirley (Lark), many dear friends, his grandmother, aunts, and uncles.

He is survived by his mother, Anna M. Summers of Hagerstown, MD, an aunt, Betty J. West of Chambersburg, PA, a brother, Joseph H. Summers and his special friend Melinda Johnston of Boonsboro, MD, a sister, Wanda M. Sigler of Falling Waters, WV, two nephews, Justin Sigler of Falling Waters, WV and Joseph Summers and his wife Madison of Chambersburg, PA. His proudest accomplishments or his “Angels” as he would like to call them, his daughters, Tonya S. Harshman and April L. Shirley, both of Hagerstown, MD. Four grandchildren, Branden J. Fogle and his wife Brooke Fogle of Hancock, MD, Cortni N. Shirley and her fiancé, Ryan P. Howard of Hancock, MD, Jakope P. Shirley and his wife Alexiss Shirley of Chambersburg, PA, and Joshua L. Harshman and his special friend Allison Kerr of Hagerstown, MD. Five great grandchildren, Carli Howard, Olivia Howard, and Ryan Howard Jr. or” Pappy’s Silly Goose” of Hancock, MD, Aiden Shirley and Karson Shirley of Chambersburg, PA. Decklynn Bird, soon to be Fogle, and his newest addition, a great granddaughter, Magnolia Fogle, both of Hancock, MD.

Family will be receiving friends, Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 6-8 P.M.at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue., Hagerstown, MD.
