Donna Stewart Martin

Donna Stewart Martin of Clarkston, Michigan, passed peacefully on May 2, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 21, 1938, and was adopted by Donald and Margaret Stewart of Hagerstown, Maryland. She grew up in a very loving and happy family environment with one sister, Lois Cline (deceased). Donna graduated from Lees-McRae College in North Carolina. In 1960 she married Darryl Martin of Maugansville, Maryland. They settled outside of Baltimore and began raising a family of five children: Derek (m. Alisa Garrett), Deanna (m. David Maginnis), Drew (w. Diana Kerwin), Douglas (m. Wendi Wherli), and Dustin (m. Trinh Truong). In the ‘70s they separated; in the ‘80s they divorced; in the ‘90s they married one another again – love rekindled! The family remained intact throughout the tumult of those decades as Donna triumphed over some difficult challenges. Nine precious grandchildren and one great grandchild came along: Matthew Maginnis, Joseph Maginnis, Paul Maginnis, Pryor Martin, Noah Martin, Ethan Martin, Allegra Martin, Riley Martin, Adam Martin, and Luke Maginnis.

Donna was a very private individual. She possessed great strength and fortitude, and she never lost her sense of humor nor the ability to laugh under the most difficult of circumstances – a gift she passed on to all her children. A devout Christian, she enjoyed discussing her faith with her children. She loved to dance, kept a beautiful and organized home, and was always an elegant dresser. She treasured the time spent with her children and their families. The Sunday family dinners at Dustin and Trinh’s were always the highlight of the week.

Donna's absence will be deeply felt by her husband, children, and grandchildren; yet her passing is celebrated knowing that she is enjoying the joy and peace of being at home with our Lord. Donna's final resting place will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown, Maryland, with the family holding a private service to honor her memory. In lieu of flowers please consider supporting the work of your local SPCA; Donna would like that.
