Doris Jane (Stoner) Wood, age 99, died at home, in the arms of her daughter Rebecca on Friday, November 24, 2023. She was preceded in death by Byron W. Wood in 1987, her beloved husband of 44 years. Doris was born on May 14, 1924 in Hagerstown, MD to Russell and Verna Giles Stoner.  Doris graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1942, and later served many years on the class reunion committee. She was employed by Pangborn Corporation in the 1940’s retiring in 1951 to care for her family.

Doris was a lifelong member of John Wesley United Methodist Church. When she was younger, Doris participated in various church groups, activities, and was a member of The Women’s Club. Doris was loyal, caring, and steadfast as a mother and friend.  She was selfless, generous and kind. Her open-mindedness, energetic spirit, and lifelong friendships were highly valued. Doris was a voracious reader, well-informed about history and current events, an exceptional seamstress, and was delighted when she could answer Jeopardy questions. Doris enjoyed traveling with her daughter both in the US and abroad. This included many birthday celebrations to a wide variety of destinations.  London was her favorite.

Doris is survived by her loving daughter, Rebecca Jean Wood of Hagerstown, and a brother, Retired Brigadier General Richard L. Stoner and wife Linda of Crossville, TN. She was preceded in death by one sister, Louise S. Rider in 2007.
