Dr. Jacqueline Hajek Werner, 96, of Homewood Willow Ponds Assisted Living, Frederick, MD, died February 8, 2024, under the care of Hospice of Frederick County.

Jacque was born August 25,1927 in Richmond, VA to the late Edward J. Hajek and Hettie O. Hajek. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Hubert F. Werner in 2000 and her sister Hettie Doris Drawbaugh in 2006.

While living in Hagerstown she graduated from Hagerstown High School and the University of Maryland with the degrees of Bachelor and Master of Science. Choosing a medical career, she entered Georgetown University Medical School and graduated with honors and her medical degree in 1964. Jacque chose Pathology as her specialty and did her residency training at Duke University Medical Center and Stanford University.

While a student at the University of Maryland, Jacque met Hubert and they were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in 1950. After completion of her residency they settled in Atlanta, GA where she practiced as a pathologist at Emory University Hospital and Southern Regional Medical Center until 1990. She also owned and operated her own private outpatient laboratory. She and her husband were enthusiastic world travelers and Jacque continued her travels after his death. She had traveled to all seven continents including many trips to her beloved Africa.

Jacque is survived by her brother, Richard J. Hajek (Beverly) of Waynesboro, PA, and nephews Dr. Edward J. Drawbaugh (Jane) of Waynesboro, PA, Michael J. Hajek (Joan) of Ellicott City, MD, and Bradley C. Hajek (Beverly) of Littlestown, PA, two great-nephews and two great-nieces.

There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Avenue, Frederick, MD 21701.
