Edith Coleen Hampton, On February 22, 2023 at 11:38 pm, surrounded by her husband and four daughters, drew her final breath on earth and entered her eternal home in Heaven.
The 92 years she spent on this earth were filled with caring for others, learning, and adventure. She is most remembered as a Godly woman and someone known for her servant leadership. In her role as a Pastor’s wife, she taught Junior Church, mentored women, delivered meals, provided comfort to those in need, and organized events that built community.
As an elementary school teacher for 30+ years, she was most often referred to as the person who gave children the gift of reading. Her favorite stories were about children who had their lightbulb moment and became avid readers.
Lessons continued from the classroom to her family when she insisted vacations contain an element of learning. Visits to homes of former Presidents or other historical sites became the norm for summer vacations. As her daughters formed families of their own, she encouraged visits to the beach that brought them all together. A further demonstration of her adventurous spirit and flare for fun was her fetish for scarves which completed almost every outfit she wore.
Born to Joseph and Ada Lucille Quesinberry in Mount Airy, NC, Edith Coleen married Ralph Edward Hampton, a union that thrived for 64 years. She is also survived by her four daughters, Frances Hampton, Cheri Hampton-Farmer and husband, Gene Farmer, Deborah Sadler and husband, Chris Sadler, Cindy Thurber and husband, Bobby Thurber; grandchildren, Benjamin Farmer, Anna Rudicel and husband, Jordan Rudicel, Alexandra Farmer, Wesley Sadler and wife Janine Sadler, Matthew Sadler and wife, Shyan Sadler, Jessica Shank and husband, Andrew Shank, Phillip Thurber and wife, Melanie Thurber, Micayla Sadler and Julie Sadler; great grandchildren, Eden Rudicel, Ivy Rudicel, Marcus Sadler, Ellie Shank, Drew Shank and Oliver Thurber.
