Gary Lynn Hollingsworth, 74, of Smithsburg, Md., passed away, Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at the Williamsport Retirement Village.
Born December 22, 1948 in Waynesboro, Pa. he was the son of the late, Walter Richard and Janet Alice (Rodgers) Hollingsworth. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by one brother, Dwight Hollingsworth.
Gary retired as a sheet metal mechanic having worked for Danzer Sheet Metal Works, Hagerstown, Tri-Fab Inc., Waynesboro, Pro Fabricators, Smithsburg and Volvo Powertrain, Hagerstown.
He was a US Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War with the 437th Air Force Maintenance Squadron-Joint Base Charleston S.C. and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant, decorations and medals include the National Defense Service Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksman Ribbon and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Leitersburg, Md., Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, Hagerstown and as a teenager he was a member of the Leitersburg Volunteer Fire Company.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Jenny "Jen" Lynn (Switzer) Hollingsworth; one daughter, Karen Lynn Hollingsworth (Frank Vincent); three brothers, Keith, Terry and Brian Hollingsworth and his loving canine companion, Cooper.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
