George Elston Caniford (Porky) 64, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Monday, June 2, 2025. He passed away at his son’s home surrounded with the love of his family by his side.
Born October 12, 1960 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Mary and George Caniford, Jr.
Porky struggled with traditional schooling, but he understood the importance of education, so he persevered later in life to obtain his GED. His main occupation was a roofer. He was one of a kind, he was full of energy and he was always on the go. Many many people have fond and hilarious memories of Porky, he loved to have a good time. He was always one to make a buck or make a deal, and he loved the thrill of the buy. He loved wrestling and his sons and wife made sure his last days were filled with lots of Wrestlemania and WWE. He was a good provider and he was a proud family man. Family and friends were always welcome and he loved any excuse to have a get together. He was always ready to get a card game together. You could always count on the candy and snacks that he offered to everyone. It was a given that Uncle Porky had candy. He loved kids and kids loved him, he was so proud of his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Susie Caniford; son George (PJ), wife Dayjour Caniford and grandchildren Dasan, Gracelyn, Aubrey, Karli, Ashmir, Adryan, Priya and Jayden, who is on the way; son Ryan Caniford and daughter-in-law Kara Malott and grandchildren, Ryan Jr (RJ) and Zoeigh; brother Jeffrey Caniford, companion Mary Burkett; Sisters Dixie Pheil, husband Jeff; Tina Caniford, wife Pat; Lisa Wishard companion Ray Chavarria. He was loved by many nieces and nephews and he will be greatly missed.
Porky was preceded in death by his father George Caniford, Jr ; mother, Mary Caniford; brother Frank Merrbaugh II; grandson Ashton Caniford.
The family will receive family and friends at Rest Haven Funeral Home on PA Ave., Hagerstown, from 11-1 on Friday, June 13, with the memorial service beginning at 1. His final resting place will be at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park where he will be buried beside his beloved mother. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of Washington County.
