Gloria Dawn Bailey

Gloria Dawn Bailey, 88, passed away on February 3, 2024 in LTC at Fahrney Keedy Senior Living in Boonsboro, Md. Gloria was born on November 17, 1935, in Hagerstown, MD. Her parents were Beatrice (Ruck) Hancock and Nelson T. Hancock of Hagerstown MD. Gloria is survived by her son, Robert K. Bailey (Barbara A Camp) of Centreville VA. She was predeceased by her daughter, Kimberly D. Kautz (Richard L. Kautz) of Martinsburg WVA. She is also survived by her brother, Vernon L. Hancock of Martinsburg; nephews, Vernon L. Hancock Jr. (Laura Hancock) of Dayton NV, and John K. Hancock (Staci Hancock) of Carson City NV; great-nephews, Braydon Hancock and Johnny Hancock Jr. of Carson City NV; great-niece, Mikayla Hancock of Dayton NV; grandchildren, Cody M Camp of Centreville, VA, Courtney D Gotham (Robert G Gotham) of Chambersburg, PA, and Michelle D Detwiler of Baltimore, MD; great-grandchildren, Cameron A Wolfe and Emma N Wolfe of Chambersburg PA. Gloria retired in 1985, after working 30 years for AT&T in Hagerstown Md. She also had a second career with Allstate Insurance for 15 years. Gloria made numerous friends throughout her working career and had many adventures with them. She loved to travel and meet new people as well. She truly lived by the saying, “a stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet”. Her favorite place to go was North Myrtle Beach SC. She went there annually with her best friend, and sis-in-law, Carol Hancock. Gloria was also an amazing gardener. There wasn’t a plant she couldn’t make thrive. She would gladly share her plants with anyone as well. She especially loved visiting the local sunflower fields each year. She also enjoyed shopping at yard sales and thrift shops for antiquities, flags, bird baths etc. She would beautifully decorate for every season, inside and outside of her home. She took great pride in her efforts, and everyone appreciated her creativity. Gloria appreciated the beauty in everything and everyone around her. She was the nicest person you could possibly meet, always ready to share a laugh or a smile with total strangers. After you chatted with Gloria, for just a little while, you knew you were better for it. She always left a little sunshine, and fun, wherever she went. She will be truly missed by those of us who had the chance to be loved by her. A private celebration of her life is planned for the near future.
