J. Richard Grove, Jr.

J Richard Grove, Jr., aka "Dick" or "Grovie", 91, formerly of Hagerstown, passed away on Saturday, December 9,2023 at his home in Wytheville, Virginia.  Born October 1, 1932, he was the son of the late J Richard Grove, Sr. and Helen ( Waters ) Grove.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Barbara ( Palladino ) Grove in 1993 and brother, Charles Grove ( Mary ). He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Patty Grove.  He is also survived by five children, Sandra Anderson, Debra Jolliffe ( Edward ), Curtis Grove ( Ann ), David Grove and Kevin Grove, seven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren, all  in Maryland.  

Dick worked for A&P Supermarkets for 27 years, working his way up to Store Manager, in Hagerstown, Maryland.  He retired from Super Value after 17 years. Dick and Barbara spent many years enjoying their second home at Fenwick Island, Delaware, where he loved fishing and boating. He and Patty then moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, where the boating and fishing continued, and traveled with Florida friends Don and Glenna Diehl.  They have resided in Wytheville, Virginia for the past 24 years.  They attended Chilhowie First Church of God.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 2 PM  at Rest Haven Funeral Home with the Reverend Tom Young officiating.  The family will receive friends and family from 1 PM until time of service at the Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to your favorite charity.
