James “Jim” Vito Burdett, 79, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 6, 2025, at his home. Born on August 7, 1945, in Scranton, NJ, he was the son of the late Clair Burdett and Laura (Piazza) Burdett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary (Burdett) Kaczmarek.
Jim was a graduate of North Hagerstown High School. He retired from Mack Trucks after 41 years in various positions. Jim was very involved in the Hagerstown community. He was an active member of the Hagerstown Auxiliary Police, Truck 1 Hagerstown, Engine 5 Hagerstown, Funkstown Fire Co., UAW, a former member of the Washington County Air Unit and a lifetime member of Community Rescue Service. He was a member of the Redman Club in Williamsport, the North American Rod & Gun Club and the Hagerstown Elks as well as a sponsor member of their PAL bingos. Jim was a member of Mt Bethel United Methodist Church, Smithsburg.
Jim is survived by his twins; daughter, Ann Seiss (Jerry) and son, Mike Burdett (Julie); Grandchildren Jessica, Bobby, Kyle (Erica), Benjamin (Rebecca), Amanda and Devan and 10 great grandchildren. He will also be greatly missed by his companion of 31 years, Linda Longnecker and her children, Michael, Cody, and Shawn, as well as his brother-in-law, Edward Kaczmarek and his family.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 6-8 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742. The celebration of life, officiated by Pastor Andrew Brown, will be held Saturday, June 14, at 1:00 p.m., also at Rest Haven. Interment will follow.
