John D. Beard, 85 passed away on August 29, 2025, at Doey's House in Hagerstown, Maryland. Born on April 5, 1940, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Allen J. and Mary D. (Eyler) Beard.
During his high school years, he attended Hagerstown High. John was a self-employed dairy farmer for 20 years in the Boonsboro MD area. He later was employed as Maintenance Supervisor for the Sheraton in Hagerstown. John also worked with his sons, Dale and Tim, in their landscaping businesses throughout the years as well.
In his free time, John enjoyed skeet shooting, hunting, and especially tractor pulling. His faith also played an essential role in his life. He was a regular attendee at Calvary Temple in Williamsport, MD.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Beard; one sister; Joyce D. (Happ) Miner, both of Hagerstown, his children; Johni Dell Jordan, Pam Downin (Rich), Dale Beard (Julie), Tim Beard (Beth), Jeff Kelbaugh, and Michael Kelbaugh, grandchildren; Brittany Buhrman, Jordan Beard, Kaitlyn Beard, Brooke Jones, Eli Beard, Britton Beard, Jake Demers, Zack Demers, Beckah Colgan, Jeffery, Erinn, Damian, Mary Jane, Zoey Kelbaugh, Michael, Zane, Christian, and Rylan Kelbaugh. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. His family grew to include many great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen E. Deaver, Betty J. Pashen, and Leota M. (Bunk) Mullendore; and seven brothers; William A. (Jim), Robert Dale, Jack M., Donald E., Charles E., Edward L., and L. Neal Beard Sr.
During his illness, John was deeply grateful for the exceptional care of two remarkable women: Chiara, his nurse at Meritus Medical, and Missy, his caregiver at Julia Manor. Through their kindness, the family gained two new friends.
John often expressed profound gratitude for the love and friendship of those closest to him, especially his beloved mother-in-law, Catherine Garling, whom he described as his “bestest, bestest friend.” Beyond his family, John cherished his friendships, especially with Alfonso Solano and Jeff Routzahn. The family thanks them both for their love, help and support throughout the years.
The family extends a special thank you to Pastor Bobby Robinson, whom John proudly called his best friend. Every moment together was cherished.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 6–8 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland.
A Celebration of Life will follow on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Bobby Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial, 17636 W. Washington St., Hagerstown.
