John David Ausherman

June 21, 1941 — March 16, 2020

John David Ausherman, 78, of Hagerstown, died Monday, March 16, 2020 at his home, while surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 21, 1941, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Ivan Leo and Ruth Mae (Fuss) Ausherman.

John was a proud veteran and honorably discharged by the U.S. Navy. He was an employee of the civil service. John was a telecommunications specialist during Desert Storm, where he was employed by Fort Ritchie, Cascade, Maryland.

In his retirement, he was involved in the Berkley County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League and the Pegaus RC Club.

John enjoyed airplanes, whether it was flying his own, or putting together a model plane. He also enjoyed water skiing.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carolyn Virginia Ausherman; three children, Deborah Sue and husband Harold Ray Thomas of Wagoner, OK, David Michael Ausherman of Hagerstown, and Michelle Ruth and husband Darrin Daley of Jackson, GA; five grandsons; two granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. The burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with honors being accorded by the U.S. Navy.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
