John Lee Sullivan, Jr.

John L. Sullivan, Jr., 56, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly on April 13, 2024, of natural causes at his home in Hagerstown, MD.

Born on December 22, 1967.  He was the son of the late John Lee Sullivan, Sr., and Ethel Jean (Anderson) Sullivan.

John, Jr., graduated from North Hagerstown High School in June of 1985.  After graduation, he started working at Martin's Grocery Store.  He worked there until 2005.  He helped in taking care of both of his parents at that time.  When his Mother died in 2009, he kept his promise to her that Dad and he would look after each other.  He was very faithful in that promise until April 2022.  It was no longer safe for Dad to live at home at 95 years of age.  John was a very devoted, loving, caring son to both his parents.  In his younger years, he was also one of the caretakers for his grandmother, Margaret (Keller) Sullivan.  He also helped many of his neighbors with snow removal and mowing their grass for them.

John, Jr., loved football and most sports.  He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy fan!  He liked history, especially the Civil War era; heavy metal music; Bigfoot; and conspiracy theories.

He is survived by sister, Sharon A. Griffith and husband Ray (Tony) Griffith; and sister, Krista L. Evans; niece, Stacy Bowles; nephew, Dustin Dixon; niece, Sarah Evans and husband Paul Wetzstein; and nephew, Brian Evans; as well as 4 great-nieces, Jasmine Macker, Isabelle Macker, Gabriella Oley, and Lola Wetzstein; 2 great-nephews Nicholas Macker and Miles Wetzstein; and his dearest best friend for 31 years, Charlotte Ringleb of New Hampshire.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Jean (Anderson) Sullivan; father John Lee Sullivan, Sr.; 1 sister, Cindy Jean Dixon; 1 brother-in-law, Dale Dixon;  2 great-nieces, Jill Renee Griffith and Cassie Dixon Oley.

A private graveside service will be held at the family’s convenience  at Rest Haven.  Pastor Teresa Adams, who is the wife of John’s cousin,  Kelly Adams, will be delivering a brief message.
