Joseph “Joe” Patrick Sacchet, 74, of Hagerstown, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Fahrney Keedy Nursing Home, Boonsboro. Born on October 17, 1949 in Clifton Forge, Va., he was the son of the late Gertrude Marie (McDonald) and Hugo Sacchet. Joe graduated in 1968 from St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown; received his Associates Degree from Hagerstown Junior College and later his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Baltimore. 

Joe began a career dedicated to public service as a police officer with the Hagerstown Police Department. He then became a caseworker for the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services and later served as Warden from 1989 to 2005 at the three State prisons in Hagerstown: Maryland Correctional Training Center, Maryland Correctional Institute and Roxbury Correctional Institute. Joe continued his career as the Executive Director of the Community Corrections Day Reporting Center of Berkeley and Jefferson Counties, W. Va.  For the last ten years of his life, he served as a caseworker for the DADS Connection, providing mentoring and job readiness to fathers in Washington County, Md. 

Joe was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hagerstown. An avid home chef, Joe loved channeling his Italian roots and spending time cooking for his family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 24 years, Kristy (Kelly) and is survived by his children, Daughter; Kerri Corderman and husband, Paul, Son; Patrick Sacchet, Daughter; Sara Sacchet and fiance Connor Shank,  Step-Daughter; Mandy Hall, Grandchildren; Haley Wainwright, Hiler Wainwright, Samantha Corderman, Cy Hall, and Avery Hall, Sisters: Anne Sacchet Payne, Susan Sacchet Maasberg and her husband Michael Maasberg, Mary Sacchet Gray, and, many loved nieces, nephews and cousins. 

A viewing will be held Thursday, April 11 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 12 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown with Fr. James Boric officiating. Eulogies will be shared by the family at the completion of the Mass. A private burial will be held at a later date.
