Marvin Eugene Toms

Marvin Eugene Toms, 96, of Halfway, passed away peacefully at his home on December 6, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. 

Marvin was born June 3, 1927, to the late Ira and Thelma Toms.  He met the love of his life, Wanda, as a child on Ridge Ave in Hagerstown.  They were married in 1947 and celebrated 65 years of marriage.  In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his daughter Ginger Beattie, son-in-law Mike, brothers Bernard, Donald and Dennis “Mike”, sisters Ruby, Doris, Lois and Tempe, and great grandson Nathanial. 

Marvin was a member of Washington Square United Methodist Church which he joined in 1934.  He attended Hagerstown High School.  He was a member of the Elks club and Alsatia club. He worked many years at HL Mills before going to work at the Register of Wills office. He retired as the Register of Wills for Washington County having served 1980-1992. He loved his family, gardening, woodworking, and golfing. 

He is survived by his son Greg Toms (Darlene), grandchildren, Kim Weaver (Brad), Jeff Beattie (Laurie) and Bill Beattie (Brenda), great-grandchildren Ashley (Bryan), Alyssa (Larry), Caitlin, Maleigha, Bralyn, Brendan, McKenna, and Payton.  Great-great grandchildren Hudson, Oliver and Carra, numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held in the chapel at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave, Hagerstown, Maryland, MD 21742 on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at 11am. 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Friends will also be received on Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
