Mary Lou Ann Shoop

Mary Lou Ann Shoop, 80, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away at Julia Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, on June 30, 2025. Born on February 6, 1945, in Abbington, PA, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary Ann Varallo.

As a girl, Mary Lou attended St. Anthony for grade school, later graduating from McBvitt high school in Glenside, PA. Mary Lou was a kind soul who loved all animals, anything from cats and dogs to hermit crabs. She was an artist who painted murals and enjoyed curating her flower garden where she watched hummingbirds. Reading was a favorite pastime for Mary Lou, as was swimming in her pool.

Mary Lou is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Robert Shoop; son, Paul Umfer (Lisa); daughter, Dr. Laura Umfer; and grandchildren, Allexa and Isabella Umfer.

A celebration of life will be held at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave, Hagerstown, MD 21742, on Tuesday 7-8-25 at 12:00 p.m., with a viewing one hour before. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.
