Nellie L. Bachtell

Nellie Louise "Sis" Bachtell, 87, of Hagerstown, passed away, Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown.
Born April 5, 1931, in Leitersburg, Md. she was the daughter of the late, William Martin and Leona Hilda (Barbee) Barnes. In addition to her parents she also was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, George Allen Bachtell; a daughter, Cynthia Woodward; a grandson, Patrick Bachtell; a great grandson, Jamison Bachtell; six brothers, Elmo Barnes, Louis "Bud" Barnes, William "Bill" Barnes, Frank Barnes, Hollis Barnes and Jack Barnes; two sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Kline and Barbara Cline.
Mrs. Bachtell was a homemaker and a member of St. Peters (Beards) Lutheran Chruch, Leitersburg.
She is survived by five sons, Douglas A. Bachtell (Teresa), R. Wayne Bachtell (Pat), Brian Bachtell (Julie), Rodney Bachtell (Kathleen) and Donald Bachtell (Deb); two brothers, Thomas "Butch" Barnes and James "Jimmy" Barnes; three sisters, Patricia "Patty" Izer, Margaret "Peggy" Koontz and Beverly Barnes; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Rev. John Schildt officiating.
Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to services from 12:00-1:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Bachtell's name to Breast Cancer Awareness-Cumberland Valley Inc., 12916 Conamar Dr., Suite 201, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
