Patricia “Pat” Ann (Footen) Chaney, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, at the age of 78. Pat was born on November 30,1946, in Frostburg, MD. She grew up in Cumberland, MD, and graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1965. She made her home in Hagerstown, MD for the last 40 years.
Pat was the daughter of the late Joseph A. Footen and Clarissa I. (Meese) Footen. She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sister, Clarissa “Cribby” (Footen) McKenzie, and recently her brother, James “Jim” P. Footen.
Pat was a devoted wife and loving mother to her daughters, to whom she always prioritized their needs and happiness. She was a woman of strength and resilience, faced challenges with grace, and inspired us all with her unwavering faith and kindness. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She loved camping trips, amusement parks, carnivals and fairs, trips to the ocean, and live theaters, especially with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was passionate about growing trees, garden varieties, and bird watching. The outdoors was where she found peace and solace. She treasured family get-togethers, holiday gatherings, picnics, and hosted many of her own.
Pat was employed at many places during her life, including Memorial Hospital of Cumberland, MD and Arc of Washington County as a home health care nursing assistant. She also worked at Allegany Ballistics Laboratory Rocket Center, WV and at Citicorp Hagerstown, MD, where she retired in 2008 after 22 years.
Pat is survived by her husband, Reynold “Pete” Chaney of 25 years, and daughters: Teresa (White) Chaney and husband Glenn, Jennifer White and partner Larry Baker, Nancy (Arrington) Jentzsch and husband Alexander; grandchildren: Bradley Chaney, Leah Chaney, Alec Fouke, Emily (Fouke) Mong and husband Aaron, Joseph Fouke, Marissa Fouke, Lexie (Jentzsch) Smith and husband Brady, Kaleb Jentzsch and wife Anna, Madelyn Jentzsch, and Melina Jentzsch; great-grandchildren: Hayden Chaney, Carson Mong, with Lexie and Kaleb each expecting a baby soon.
She is also survived by her siblings: Joseph J. Footen, Mary E. Beck, Kathryn A. Ekstrom, John F. Footen and wife Diane, Daniel Footen and wife Frances, Francis X. Footen and wife Judy, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family will be recieved beginning at 10 A.M. on Saturday, July 26th, 2025, at Rest Haven Funeral Home, Hagerstown, MD. A memorial service will begin at 12 P.M. with Pat's grandson Kaleb officiating.
All are welcome to join the family for a picnic lunch in celebration of the life of our beloved mother, Patricia Chaney. The lunch, hosted by her daughters, will be held at the home of Jennifer White, 12809 El Paso Drive, Hagerstown, MD, immediately following the service.
