Ralph E. "Gene" Manon, 87, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 16, 2025.
Born September 19, 1937, in Waynesboro, Pa. he was the son of the late Ralph B. and Mildred K. (Knepper) Manon. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his sister, Jolane F. Manon.
Gene was a strong believer in progressive politics and social justice. He served in the U.S. Army as a medic which led to a career in the medical field where he spent his entire working life as a dedicated caregiver, most recently as a dialysis technician at Meadow Kidney Care, Hagerstown. In addition, Gene was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge #378, Hagerstown.
Gene was a devoted family man survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Angelene (Faith) Manon.; two stepsons, Bradley E. LaFollette (Kim Nickerson), and Thomas I. LaFollette (Mary Ann); five step grandchildren, Darren and Stephanie LaFollette, Amanda (Kori), Brittany and Bernadette LaFollette; one sister, Kay Vermette and a nephew, Robert E. Britt, and family.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 6-8 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
Inurnment will be private in Rest Haven Cemetery and held at the convenience of the family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Meritus Medical Center, 5 East and Hospice of Washington for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gene's name to Hospice of Washington County, 1710 Underpass Way, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
