Raymond Harold "Bubby" Lindsay Jr., 73, of Hagerstown, passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at home with his loving wife at his side.
Born Feb. 20, 1939, in Washington County, Md., he was the son of the late Raymond Harold Lindsay Sr. and Vivian Irene Lindsay.
Mr. Lindsay retired from Stratton Furniture, where he worked as a finisher, and had previously worked as a sandblaster for the Pangborn Corp.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of Funkstown Dixon-Troxell American Legion Post 211 and AMVETS Post 9 in Middletown, Md.
He attended Hagerstown Bible Church.
Bubby, along with Dave Phillips, Bob Parks and the Parks family, founded the Funkstown Legion baseball team, which went on to win the Maryland state championship a few years later.
He is survived by his loving wife, Deanna J. "Dee" (Bowers) Lindsay; one sister, Nancy Hahn of Hagerstown; a nephew, Tim Hahn of Dover, Del.; four stepchildren, Kimberly Bymun of Hagerstown, Donald Gower (Leigh) of Frederick, John Gower (Tracey) of Chambersburg, Pa., and Pamela Gower of Greensboro, N.C.; mother-in-law, Lavinia Bowers; a very good friend, Jack Hill of Hagerstown; a very special little girl, Avery; and five four-legged friends (dogs).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Delores (Hawthorne) Lindsay.
Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor Dale Carver and Lay Reader Jack Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Maryland National Guard Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
