Rebecca Leverett, 70, of Hagerstown, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 16, 2020.

Born on February 21, 1950 in Indianola, MS, Rebecca was the daughter of the late Wallace and Olive Rebecca (Scott) Shuttleworth. She is also predeceased by her son, Richard Leverett.

Rebecca graduated from Indianola High School in 1968. She graduated from Millsaps College in Jackson, MS in 1971. She also earned a Masters Degree in education from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She held certifications in Elementary Education, Principalship, Bilingual education, and Gifted and Talented education.

She taught in Jackson, MS; San Antonio, TX, and Fort Benning, GA. She finished her teaching career in 2013 when she retired from the Washington County Public Schools after teaching in that district for twenty years in the Gifted and Talented Program.
She was an Army wife and cheerfully adapted to frequent moves and new locations. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, scrapbooking, reading, and especially being with her family. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma (a professional society for women), the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Chi Omega. Becky was an active and involved member of Paramount Baptist Church.

Rebecca is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Carey O. Leverett. She is also survived by her sons, Scott Leverett of Columbia, SC; and Jonathan Leverett and his wife Sarah of Chapin, SC. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Carey Leverett, Jonah Leverett, and Rosa Leverett. She is also survived by her sister, Sally Brodie and her husband Reid.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 12:00 PM at Paramount Baptist Church, with Pastor Frank Duncan officiating, with visitation one hour prior. Committal will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.
