Richard Eugene Izer, Jr.

Richard E Izer, Jr was freed from his earthly bonds and went to be with God on Tuesday, June 13th 2023. He passed away at home surrounded by his family.  His friends and family knew him as Dick, Dickie, or Doughboy
He was born in Hagerstown MD on April 17, 1949 where he lived his entire life. He has 2 sisters, Nancy and Caroll, and was preceded in death by his brother Jimmy.  He raised 2 strong children and has 2 grandchildren. His son Richard and daughter-in-law Shannon live in Kannapolis, NC.  His daughter Michelle and 2 grandchildren, Derrick, and Mackenzie, live in Clear Spring, MD.  His children and grandchildren love many of the same things he did, from cars and motorcycles to horses, dogs, and being outdoors. He loved his family very much and would sacrifice everything to make sure they had what they need. He was also a proud veteran that served on the Air Force from 1968-1972. From his motorcycle club: Dick was an avid motorcycle enthusiast but wanted more adventure out of riding and as a proud Air Force veteran and in 2004 he found the U.S. Military Vets Motorcycle Club. Proving himself during the probationary period, he earned his membership into the motorcycle club and given the road name “Doughboy” which for 19 years up until his death was a devoted and loyal club brother. He ran with the Western Maryland Chapter and helped re-establish and re-charter the Mason Dixon Pennsylvania Chapter. While in those chapters he served in elected positions as Secretary and Treasurer and held appointed positions as FTO and Chaplin. He was Devoted to the club, his early years the bar was set high assisting in the success of many chapter functions and community outreach events. Some of the chapter outreach he went all in with, was conducting motorcycle escorts for veteran funeral processions, the local toys for tots and riding down to Walter Reed Medical Center (2005-2009) to check in on combat wounded veterans receiving medical care at the hospital. As treasurer he was influential in keeping Western Maryland chapter functions affordable for the weekend long charter parties and the making sure there was enough cash to host the always wild and crazy Western Maryland Winter Rendezvous. In 2012 he played a role in the success of rechartering the Mason Dixon Pennsylvania Chapter. As chapter Chaplin and a proud military veteran, he was always reminding us of and the community of why we do, what we do in the military. Following that he would lead the whole bar or party in a toast with Jack Daniels Honey honoring the fallen, remembering the ones who served, and praising the United States of America in his savior’s name Jesus Christ. He was Loyal to the club, when a call would go out about where the club is to meet for Kick Stands Up (KSU), he would be there with no questions asked he was just looking forward to a great motorcycle ride with his club brothers. Those rides led to many motorcycle club parties, motorcycle events, veteran events, funerals, and meetings. The club gave him the adventure and brotherhood he was looking for, the rides those roads led him down went all over our great Nation. Logging thousands of miles through rain, hail, 100-degree temps to freezing temps. Traveling to Sturgis/Yellowstone, New England, Texas, Florida, and all points in between tallying over 5 iron Butts. His last longest club ride was his 3rd visit to Sturgis in 2021 followed by a hot and wet August 2022 club ride to Gulfport Mississippi for a National President Meeting. As a biker he had a great soul, he would play the best songs on the jukebox and would always say hello to any passerby at a fuel stop no matter the place or situation. Being a great ambassador to the club he was always aware of his surroundings and quick to introduce himself to other motorcycle club members, knowing “respect” is the name of the game in the motorcycle club world.  He leaves a big hole in our hearts but we will ride on and always remember him. The family will receive friends on Saturday June 17, 2023 from 3 - 6 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Military Honors will be accorded at 5:45 P.M. by the US Military Veterans Motorcycle Club and Joint Base Andrews Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 1710 Underpass Way, Hagerstown, MD 21740
