Robert Lee Harrell

Robert Lee Harrell, 88, of Hagerstown, passed away at Meritus Hospital on Sunday, September 6, 2020.

Born on February 5, 1932 in Rocky Mount, NC, Robert was the son of the late Robert Alfred and Odella Virginia (Smith) Harrell. He is also predeceased by his son, John R. Harrell; and brother, Jerry Harrell.

Robert graduated from the University of Maryland in 1954 and joined the Air Force Reserve from 1955-1957. He worked as a CPA and retired from Albright, Crumbacker, Harrell, and Moul. He was also part owner of the Hagerstown Suns in their very early years.

Robert was active on many boards and committees. He was a member of the Morris Frock Post American Legion, the Jaycees of Hagerstown, Valor Ministries, and the Lions Club where he served as President. He was a member of the board for the Family Heritage Trust and was a trustee of the Pauline Anderson Foundation.

Robert had a strong Christian faith and was an active participant in several congregations over the years. In his earlier years, he enjoyed piloting small planes, golfing, woodworking, and was a Sports Car enthusiast who enjoyed Autocross racing. He loved the outdoors and camping and spent time in various National Parks across the USA.

Robert is survived by his wife of 39 years, Connie A. Harrell. He is also survived by his daughters, Robin Spence and her husband Robert of Greencastle, PA, and Debra Eckel and her husband Todd of Keedysville, MD; and his stepson, William Spence. He is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
