Robert T. “Bob” Slate, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 29, 2025 at age 95. Born in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Robert T. and Kathleen Martin Slate.

He attended St. Mary Catholic School, and was employed by Canteen from 1955 until his retirement in 2011. Bob always had a second job and cleaned IBM, Larkin Wholesale, Citicorp, C & R Liquors, American General, and many other businesses.

Bob was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and also attended Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship with his late wife, Becky. He was also a member of the V.F.W. 1936, Morris Frock American Legion 42, Amvets Post 10, Eagles Club of Hagerstown, and the “West End Hammer Club”.

He was an Army Veteran, and served as a Sergeant with the 54th Combat Engineers. His commendations were European Theatre and Good Conduct while stationed in Germany from 1948 to 1952.

Bob loved the New York Yankees, Chicago Bears, and Maryland Terrapins. He loved to dance, especially to Michael Jackson hits. Above all, he loved his family, and radiated kindness, love, and compassion to all those around him.

He is survived by daughters, Sharon Slate, Teresa (Ralph) Crawford, and Rebecca (Robert) Brown; stepson, Gary (Cathy) Grove; grandchildren, Eric Wishard, Cherilyn (Justin) Koerting, Ruby Brown, Sara Grove, and Amber Grove; great-grandchildren, Talon, Tanor, and Tatum Koerting; brother, Bud Slate, and best friend, Charles Squibb.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 17 years, Becky Saunders Slate; sister Peg Hellane and her husband, John; brother Casey Slate and his wife Pam; and sister-in-law, Judy Slate.

Service will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025 at 1 pm, followed by burial, at Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown. Pastor Chris Mohler will officiate. Family will receive friends and family one hour before service.
