Ruth Esther Baer was born on May 15, 1946 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Henry Baer and Ruth Esther Eberly Baer.
She spent most of her childhood years in State Line, PA and attended elementary school there. She graduated from Greencastle-Antrim High School in 1964.
Ruth enjoyed music, especially spiritual and gospel music. During her childhood she took piano lessons and enjoyed singing. She had a beautiful singing voice. This led her to study music at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, from which she graduated with a degree in music education in 1969. She taught music in public schools on the eastern shore of Maryland for several years.
Later, Ruth spent several years selling life insurance in the Hagerstown, Maryland area. During these years, she gained an interest in health and medicine, studied to become a nursing assistant and worked giving home care to people in need. She later was employed as a nursing assistant at Ravenwood Nursing Home near Hagerstown, Maryland.
Ruth had a deep faith in God and was a member of Tri State Fellowship Church.
Ruth enjoyed being with family and friends. She loved nature and flowers. During the years that she was able to tend to them, she had the most beautiful flower beds at her home. She often said that caring for her flowers was her way of relaxing. She also had a fondness for animals, particularly dogs.
Ruth is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 11:00AM at Resthaven Cemetery, Hagerstown, Maryland, Reverend David Hara officiating.
