Ruth S. Hamsher

Ruth Spiker Hamsher, 90, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Feb. 16, 2011, at Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
She was born Jan. 5, 1921, in Uniontown, Pa., the daughter of the late Noah J. Spiker and the late Bessie Drew Spiker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Hamsher Jr., of Downsville, Md.; her sister, Esther Chipps, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; and son-in-law, Vaughn Zimmerman, of Hagerstown.
She is survived by her daughter, Abby J. Zimmerman, of Hagerstown; her son, John A. Hamsher Sr. and wife, Judy, of Hagerstown; six grandchildren, Kim Shrader, Monty and Tim Zimmerman, John Hamsher Jr., Jodi Grimes and Jerri Stuhler; and 10 great-grandchildren, Vaughn and Dylan Zimmerman, Sydney, Cory and Dustin Shrader, Reese Zimmerman, Hannah and Hunter Hamsher, Karli Grimes and Brandon Stuhler.
Ruth was employed at Williamsport Nursing Home for over 40 years as a licensed practical nurse.
She enjoyed sewing, reading and spending time with her family, friends and pet cat, C.C.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Kitty Lippy officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home
