Tanner Rice Jr. Ernest

Ernest Tanner Rice Jr., 85, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at Broadmore Assisted Living.
Born Oct. 23, 1926, in Harmony, W.Va., he was the son of the late Ernest Tanner Rice Sr. and Hazel Victoria (Reed) Colbert.
He attended St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown, and was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 and Hagerstown AMVETS Post 10.
Ernest enjoyed citizens' band radio (also known as CB radio).
He retired as a machinist from Tebow Aircraft in West Virginia, and went on to work for Corning Glass in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Ernest is survived by a daughter, Dixie Line of Greencastle, Pa.; a son, Dwayn Rice and wife, Rosenda, of Clear Spring; four grandchildren, Karla, Jeremy, Jason and Vincent; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Thurland Colbert.
A funeral service will be Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Mark C. Mooney officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
