Virginia “Jenny” LaRue Delauter, 76, of Ellicott City, Maryland, formerly of Hagerstown, Maryland; passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at AccentCare Inpatient Hospice Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Born June 13, 1948 in Hagerstown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Lester Forney and Catherine Lorraine (Deibert) Delauter.
Virginia was a 1966 graduate of North Hagerstown High School. She attended the nursing school of Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Maryland graduating in 1969 and later acquired her bachelors degree at University of Maryland in Baltimore County graduating in 1987.
Virginia was a dedicated and loyal registered nurse at University of Maryland Medical Center, working in the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for 43 years before retiring in 2014.
She was a lifelong member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren. There, Virginia served many years assisting her mother in the kitchen with banquets and church functions as well as being a nurse for the church summer camps at Shepherd’s Spring.
She was an avid fan of the Baltimore Ravens and Baltimore Orioles.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her brother, Ricky L. Delauter.
Surviving her is a brother, Jeffrey L. Delauter of Hagerstown; two nieces, Pamela A. (Donald) Rohrback of Big Pool, Maryland and Tina M. (Michael) Kelley of Hedgesville, West Virginia; one aunt, Doris E. James of Hagerstown, Maryland; her great-nephews and great-niece, and several cousins. She was a doting aunt who took great pride in all her nieces and nephews. Virginia was also blessed to have a special lifelong friend, Kathryn Booth.
Virginia loved to do crafts, especially cross stitch; take vacations with her family, and above all else help others.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, in Hagerstown, Maryland with Pastor Ben Manning officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Virginia’s name to Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, 15 S. Mulberry Street, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740.
