Virginia Frances Wolfes Small

Virginia Frances Wolfes Small, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Somerford in Hagerstown, Md.

She was born in Martinsburg, W.Va. on December 9, 1932, to the late Edgar and Evelyn Wolfes.

She graduated Martinsburg High School in 1950 and went on to get her B.A. in Secondary Education from Shepherd College in 1955.

She taught at Martinsburg High School from 1955 to 1956 and at Williamsport High School from 1956 to 1957. She went on to be a substitute teacher for Washington County High Schools for 14 years.

She was a member of the Women's Club, and Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority and in her early days she loved to bowl, square dance, and play bridge.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Randy) Murray, Kathy (Ken) Fischer, and Laura (Mike) Ray; granddaughters, Stephanie and Ashley Murray, and Chantey (Charles) Hutzell, and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Howard A. Small, who passed away in 2010.

Funeral services and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
